Cyclists use 3D Printing to bring high-performance bike parts to life with the Kappius Hub

The Kappius father and son team are in the business of developing high performance bicycle hubs. Their process was a lengthy one until they came across direct metal laser sintering (DMLS), an industrial additive manufacturing technology (3D Printing).

This has enabled them to go from “concept to bike-ready components in about month” said Kappius who has been able to tinker designs on his computer and quickly turn that into tinkering with physical prototypes.

3D Systems Named Global Leader in Digital Manufacturing

3D Systems Named Global LeaderAmerican company 3D Systems Corporation has been voted “Leader in Digital Manufacturing and Rapid Prototyping” by Design World Magazine for the second consecutive year. 3D Systems had numerous achievements in 2011, leading the innovation of  3D printing and manufacturing through the development of Stereolithography, Selective Laser Sintering and the .STL file. The company also pioneered the development of large scale manufacturing applications for aerospace, automotive and healthcare industries and small scale printers and design programs such as Alibre 2012 for personal and professional users.

President and CEO of 3D Systems, Abe Reichental was “honoured and humbled” by the award.

“Our unwavering commitment to democratise access to affordable 3D content-to-print solutions has been validated by users and practitioners for the second year in a row. We are deeply grateful to the growing global community of professionals and consumers that is embracing our products and services and to our passionate teammates who share our vision, and leverage our solutions for the benefit of humankind,” he said.

3D Systems outshined 13 other companies in the category of the global competition.
